Six Flags Dubai Is Dead
Six Flags has lost the deal to build a park in Dubai. The company says the project is now dead as Dubai Parks and Resorts cancels plans to add Six Flags to its Motiongate, Bollywood, and Legoland theme parks.
The developer has reportedly stopped paying licensing fees. Those fees typically bring in $5 million to $10 million a year before parks open, and $10 million to $20 million once they are up and running.
Location
In 2008, Six Flags announced plans for a theme park in Dubai as part of an alliance with Tatweer. The park was called Six Flags Dubailand, but it was canceled in 2010 due to financial issues with the developer.
The company later signed a deal with Meraas to build a Six Flags-branded park in Dubai Parks and Resorts, which also includes Motiongate theme park, Bollywood parks, and Legoland Dubai. Construction began in July 3, 2016, but it was halted two years later after little progress had been made. The decision was made following significant losses at DXB Entertainments, the company that operates Dubai Parks and Resorts.
Six Flags Qiddiya will open in 2023, and its signature ride, Falcon’s Flight, will race to break records as the world’s fastest, tallest, and longest roller coaster. The park is one of four giga-projects supported by Saudi’s Public Investment Fund.
Attractions
In this thrill park, you can ride the gravity defying Falcon’s Flight and experience the weightlessness of parabolic airtime hill. You can also power-up your imagination at Steam Town or get lost in a world of enchanting delights at Twilight Gardens.
The 79-acre theme park in Qiddiya will be home to 28 rides and attractions in six themed lands. These include the City of Thrills, Discovery Springs, Steam Town, Valley of Fortune and Grand Exposition. In addition, the park will have a number of restaurants and stores.
The park is part of the Dubai Parks and Resorts complex, which already includes Motiongate Dubai, Bollywood parks, and Legoland. The park is expected to open this autumn. It is the first Six Flags park in the Middle East. The US-based company is planning to expand its international presence, including in China and Vietnam.
Rides
Six Flags is bringing its brand to Dubai for the first time in 2019. Located within the new entertainment district Qiddiya, this multi-billion dollar park will include 28 rides and attractions. Its highlight will be Falcon’s Flight, which is purported to be the world’s tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster.
This ride will climb a staggering 655 feet before plummeting 525 feet straight down, and then accelerate to 156 mph on a track that stretches more than 13,000 feet. The ride will also destroy existing height, speed and track-length records.
The theme park is also designed to appeal to families, and will feature a variety of entertainment and food options. In addition to the thrill rides, there will be many attractions tailored to younger children. Thrill seekers can also check out the park’s Thrillseeker Plaza, which will be the main hub of the park with portals to each themed land. The Thrillseeker Plaza will also have a promenade, a VIP mezzanine, and space for private and catered events.

Six Flags Entertainment Corporation (NYSE: SIX), the world’s largest regional theme park company, today released initial plans for Six Flags Dubai, scheduled to open in late 2019 in the second phase of the Dubai Parks and Resorts development initiative. The park will feature record-breaking roller coasters, spectacular shows and interactive attractions synonymous with the Six Flags brand worldwide.
The park’s centerpiece will be Falcon’s Flight, the world’s tallest free-standing ride. It features a vertical dive over a cliff, an out-of-this-world airtime hill and speeds of up to 155 mph.
Guests will be able to experience other exciting rides, including water slides, best-in-class roller coasters and out-of-this-world virtual reality experiences. Tickets can be purchased online or at the park’s various ticket booths. For those looking to save money, the Gold Thrill Seeker pass pays for itself after two visits. The pass also includes discounts on food and beverages. A single day ticket costs $55 per person.
